EPIDEMIOLOGY OF OCCUPATIONAL SKIN DISEASES AMONG HEALTH CARE WORKERS IN BAQUBAH TEACHING HOSPITAL

Background: Occupational skin diseases (OSDs) among health care workers was the most frequently occurring occupational diseases. The clinical manifestations and consequences vary from mild to serious with temporary or permanent work disability. Aims: To estimate the prevalence of OSDs among health care workers in Baqubah Teaching Hospital. Patients and methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in Baqubah teaching hospital during the period from 1st of September 2014 to 31th of march 2015. The sample size are 100 workers (40 males and 60 females), 64% of these 100 subjects were found to suffer from OSDs and disorders. Verbal consent from each participant was obtained. We compiled and used a questionnaire for collecting self-reported data on assessing skin condition, partly based on the Nordic Occupational Skin Questionnaire NOSQ. Results: The prevalence of OSDs among female (56.25%), male (43.75%). The mean age (20-30) years. And more common in surgical department (33%) than the others. The prevalence of workers which have (1-5) years period of work is higher (56%). and most common OSDs is contact dermatitis (31%) than the others diseases. Conclusion: We concluded that the prevalence of OSDs among health care workers is higher in female and higher in ages between (20-30) year. And more common in surgical department than the other and also common in the workers which have (1-5) years period of work and the most common OSDs among health care workers is contact dermatitis.
