EFFECT OF PARSLEY (PETROSELINUM CRISPUM) EXTRACT ON LIPID PROFILE IN ADULT MALE ALBINO RATS

Background: Traditional herbal medicine such as parsley have been used for treatment of many diseases as antioxidative, antimicrobial and antihepatotoxic. Objective: studying the hypolipidemic effect of Parsley. Material and method:Thirty six adult male albino rats were divided into three equal groups: normocholesterolemic, hypercholesterolemic and hypercholesterolemic treated with Parsley extract. Results: total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TGs), low density lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL- C), and very low density lipoprotein Cholesterol (VLDL-C), ALT and AST increased and high density lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL- C) decreased in hypercholesterolemic group, while in hypercholesterolemic group treated with Parsley the levels of all parameters returned near to normal levels. Conclusion: Parsley extract has a hypolipidemic and hepatoprotective effects.
