DNA-based criminal investigations are very little in Egypt. This work aimed at defining the frequencies for 15 autosomal codominant allele loci namely Penta E, D18S51, D21S11, TH01, D3S1358, FGA, TPOX, D8S1179, vWA, Penta D, CSF1PO, D16S539, D7S820, D13S317 and D5S818, in a sample of 62 non-family members using the PowerPlex® 16 amplification system. The results confirm insignificant departures from the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium were observed specially after applying Bonferroni-type correction of the D13S317 locus. The forensic parameters; Power of Discrimination (PD) and Probability of Exclusion (PE) values were higher than 0.999. In conclusion, the 15 autosomal STR loci can effectually be used in criminal investigations and genetic studies purposes serving the Egyptian population.
