Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a common disorder experienced by up to 50% of women during reproductive age, it is characterized by a cluster of mild to severe physical or emotional symptoms interfere with normal and daily function, Symptoms should disappear within 4 days of the onset of menses. this study aimed to evaluate the effect of marjoram on premenstrual syndrome (PMS) among nursing students at faculty of nursing-Ain Shams University with emphasis on nurse's role as a health educator. It hypothesized that marjoram had a positive effect on premenstrual syndrome among nursing students. This prospective cohort study was conducted at faculty of nursing-Ain Shams University during the period from October 2010 till May 2012. A convenient sample technique was used with (73 out of 101) unmarried students were enrolled in the study throughout four grades at academic years (2010 -2011) who complain from PMS were included in this study. Three tools were used for data collection; 1st tool is Arabic structured questionnaire sheet concerning with socio-demographic characteristics of students nurses. 2nd tool was modified PRISM calendar and 3rd tool were follow up card used by the students to report any abnormalities detected by them. Finally there was an instructional brochure as a supportive material regarding marjoram benefits and rout of administration. Results revealed that the age of the students with PMS with mean age of 19.3±1.5 years .sixty three (63.1%) of students were from urban areas. Marjoram utilization was associated with a significant improvement in physical, psychological, mental and social symptoms of PMS for nursing student's .The researchers concluded that marjoram has a positive effect on PMS. So the research team recommended that improvement of students nursing awareness regarding marjoram benefits through integrate this concept into faculties of nursing curriculum and further studies on wide scale are required to determine other benefits of marjoram.
