Schistosomiasis is a major health problem in Egypt with high socioeconomical impact. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible antischistosomal effect of myrrh eithr alone or in combination with praziquantel through detection of tegumental changes 2 weeks after treatment with praziquantel, myrrh and combined reduced dose of both drugs. Worms recovered after praziquantel therapy had variable extent of tegumental damage, both oral and ventral suckers appeared retracted while the dorsal surface of the worm showed variable degree of tubercular damage with loss of spines. Tegument was swollen and ballooned with edematous interpapillary ridges, while after treatment of mice with myrrh there was several surface changes, these changes included, atrophy of the tegument with loss of spines, disruption and ulceration of the tubercles on the worm dorsal surface. The oral and ventral sucker appear normal and not affected. The effect of combined therapy, both oral and ventral suckers appear normal but the tegument showed collapse, disruption of the tubercles with loss of the spines with ulcerated spongy appearance.
